The spectators are simply amazing and the logistics to set up such a weekend festival is top notch. The major hills are in the beginning of the course. I have only ran in two Half Marathons and both have been the Flying Pig. Come and enjoy the fun you won’t regret it. Throughout the course I couldn’t believe the total number of spectators and fun aid stations. Best support ever every mile!!! Before registering, I had heard people rave about this race and it didn’t disappoint. My sister is the one that got me into running this event she competed in several Full Marathon Flying Pigs.
Races of all distances and abilities. The medal is one to behold and hang with pride on your medal rack. After 21 years the organizers definitely know what they are doing. The course has only one major hill around mile 6, but is flat, gently rolling and down hill for the rest of the race. The hills snuck up on me though, and I ended up tweaking my knee and having to walk after mile 19. Cincinnati is a lovely city and the motivational signs along the way were appreciated. Have fun, take your time – or, go flat out. Finisher’s certificates will be available to download after the race.Overall prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women, determined by gun time.Age group prizes will be given to the top three finishers in the following categories for men and women:Age group award times will be determined by chip time. The first part of the half was a slow(ish) climb and a few bridges but that made for a nice downhill the last 3 or so miles. I completed the 3 way challenge and all of the races were well organized and spaced out. This was my second Flying Pig Half Marathon and next year I will be running in the full marathon. The people (Grunts) as they are called do a tremendous job and the support on the course is second to none. Please check venue websites for specific details.The best-named marathon in the country (according to Runner’s World), attracts thousands of runners and spectators each year ready to run for the Finish Swine.Parking available in nearby downtown lots. Food venders, sound systems, and signage were all getting ready for one of the biggest events of the year.
And, the scenery was beautiful and the weather was perfect for race day. … The swag at the expo is like no other. The course is hilly, but with the spectators and multiple aid stations having your back, their energy is enough to propel you when the going gets tough.
