Drama, In my review of A Royal Affair, I stated that period drama was "one of the easiest genres to send up, sneer at or actively despise." He returns a Royal Navy captain. Upon arriving, Jane quickly discovers that Austenland is everything she had ever imagined. Austenland is a deeply disappointing and infuriating offering in which every shred of potential is briefly played for laughs and then cast aside. It follows protagonist Jane Hayes, a graphic designer living in New York City who is secretly obsessed with Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, specifically Colin Firth's portrayal of Mr. Darcy in the 1995 BBC adaptation.
